Math
Our new unit on number sense begins with addition story problems. We write the equation that represents the math story. Here are a few different ways students solved 24 +12.

We worked with partners to play a new game called Close to 20. Everyone is dealt 5 cards. We must chose three that can be added together equaling as close to 20 as possible. Then we record our equation, our answer, and how close to 20 we were able to get.

 Art
Students listen to instructions from our awesome art teacher.

Language Arts
We have been spending this week reviewing all of unit 2. Here a student fills in the blank with high frequency words we have been studying.

 Science
Our science unit on matter is coming to a close. We have been learning about the properties of solids, liquids, and gasses.

 Gym Class
We worked on tumbling in gym class this week.

When a student successfully climbs the ladder or the rope, they get to add their name to the poster on the wall. We were very excited with how many students got to sign their name!
Go Second Graders!

Language Arts
Possessive nouns can be very difficult for second graders, especially when we get into plural possessives. We practiced quite a bit and will review again next week.

Here students are working together on cutting out turkey feet to complete their writing project! We wrote persuasive stories about a turkey who tries to convince his farmer NOT to eat them for Thanksgiving.

 Veteran's Day Program
We are excited for our Veteran's Day Program. Thank you student council!

Reading to Someone
Reading to someone takes practice. We always go over the rules and what it should look like when we are reading to someone. We want to make sure we sit EEKK (elbow to elbow and knee to knee). We put the book in the middle so we both can see. We practice being good listeners and how to offer help when our partner is unsure of a word.

Guided Reading
It's always great having an extra set of hands in the classroom during guided reading. Here is our volunteer student from NSU who visits on Tuesdays!

 Math
We have been preparing for a math test on number strings (more than two addends in an equation). Here are our hard working 2nd graders as they take that math test.

Our 100 chart on our name plate comes in handy often during math class.

Math Workshop
The time after our math lesson is dedicated to math workshop time. Students work at math centers completing math games that help us with our fact fluency. You might also notice that it was hat day!

On one of our last days of our geometry unit, we had the chance to make our own rectangular prisms. It took teamwork to align and tape the faces just right.

Special Surprise
A band from NSU came to entertain us with jazz music during our lunch time.

Language Arts
Here we are working hard to follow along with our story of the week. We are in deep concentration, I don't think they even noticed I was taking a quick picture! We have a classroom Grandma hidden in the back of the picture. She helps us for about a half hour every day! We really appreciate her help.
