This Week in 2nd Grade

Math
We had the opportunity to work with students from another 2nd grade class during math this week. We had fun coming up with questions to ask the class, collecting our data, and creating graphs just like this one to show our results.

Math Games
PENNY TOSS After three pennies are tossed into the air, the students observe and record the number of pennies that landed heads up. We used tally marks to keep track of which scenario happened most often (0, 1, 2, or 3 heads up). We concluded that it was most likely that 1 or 2 heads would land facing up.

Cursive
We had our very first cursive handwriting lesson this week. We were so excited to graduate from print to cursive!

Compare and Contrast
Each student was assigned a partner and asked to study each others' boots/shoes. We recorded their similarities and differences on a Venn diagram.

Indoor Recess
Because of the cold, we spent a few recesses indoors this week. Playing with magnets like these, pattern blocks, and marbles were some of our favorite activities.

 Writing
We wrote our resolutions for the New Year!

We have been reading books about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and even had the chance to listen to his most famous speech, "I Have a Dream." We wrote our own pieces about our own dreams for the future.
